This might not mean to much to you young whipper-snappers, but legendary film star Paul Newman, whose brilliant blue eyes, good looks, and talent made him one of Hollywood’s top actors over six decades, has died at age 83 after a long battle with cancer.   :(  (Sorry for the immense run-on sentence)

I was watching television a little while ago when they mentioned Newman’s death. I immediately broke out in a loud, “Oh no!!!”  It’s always so sad and hits me pretty hard when I hear of someone dying.  It’s not like I knew him personally or anything, but I’ve seen him on the big screen and on TV for my entire life. Not only that, but I’ve always loved his Newman’s Own line of products. They’re all so tasty and I have always felt good buying them knowing that a portion of the proceeds goes to Newman’s Own Foundation.

Paul Newman believed in sharing his good fortune. He created Newman’s Own Foundation, a private independent foundation, to carry on his commitment of donating to charity all profits and royalties he earns from the sale of Newman’s Own products. Paul Newman and the Newman’s Own Foundation have donated more than $250 million to thousands of charities worldwide.

I suppose that’s really all I have to say on the matter. I’m honestly quite upset over the death of Paul Newman. I was just telling my bud, Matthew, that I didn’t even realize how fond of Newman I was until I learned of his death. I mean, I knew I liked the guy a whole lot, but while I was looking through different sites in preparation for this post, I found myself getting all teary-eyed. It’s just so sad…death is depressing. At least we know that he is no longer suffering, though. I know that’s a pretty cliché thing to say, but it’s true.

DeDe The Tree Man

Some of you might remember a post I made a while back about a 32 year old guy named DeDe.  He lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children who he does his best to take care of.  He is a former fisherman who now suffers from a totally trippy skin condition that makes it look like he is literally turning into a tree.       I know it doesn’t sound possible, but heck yes, it is!!!

He has root like structures growing out of his body - branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body.

The sad thing is that in an attempt to provide for his family, DeDe is now part of a circus show.   :(   He’s in a “Freak Show”…which is just so sad to me. Doctors are totally baffled over this skin condition. I remember when I watched the special on DeDe last November, they mentioned that they thought they might have a cure for the condition. The fact that The Discovery Channel is advertising the special again tells me that he’s probably not cured.   :(

If anyone wants to see a small gallery of photos of DeDe, head over to the Discovery Channel’s site and look around. The picture that I posted above is the same picture I had on my previous post about DeDe. (Those are his arms that look like trees.)  I have absolutely no idea what the show times are for the special…if I find out, I will post the dates and times.

Sheepdogs are trained to obey their master’s every word. So when farmer David Kennard decided one of those words would be “Spring”, his dogs did not hesitate. They rounded up the flock on the hills of Mr Kennard’s north Devon farm and, with a little help from their master, created a picture that reminds us that, whatever the weather, this is officially the first weekend of Spring. The scene did call for a careful scattering of feed to make the sheep form themselves in the shapes of the six letters…

…However, it was down to the team of Collies—who everyone knows border on the brilliant—to have the last word. They circled the 200-strong flock and kept them from wandering off-message.

Three of David’s five working dogs – Mist, Fern and Jake – were employed to help create the perfect lettering, which took three hours to achieve.
